The SR-3

OVERVIEW
A major terminal operator did not want to drain product below the manway level to install the manway adapter and valve required for a standard side launch inspection — but still needed an onstream API 653 inspection completed. The site worked with Square Robot to complete installation through a different avenue.
SOLUTION
The client performed a hot tap on the naphtha tank, enabling Square Robot to install the side launch system and enter the tank without lowering the product level. Over 5 days, Square Robot completed this API 653 inspection, navigating around internal columns and sediment to maximize coverage.
OUTCOME
The inspection covered 63% of the tank bottom while the tank remained fully online. The tank received a 25-year life extension with an Extreme Value Analysis, and the inspection was completed in 5 days compared to an estimated 80+ days required for a conventional out-of-service approach.
